Are you a bird-nerd? Either you know what I mean by that (meaning you probably geek out about the same things that I do), or you’ve yet to join the club. Either way, tomorrow is your lucky day! As a proud and shhh-not-too-loud!! bird-watching fanatic, I'm thrilled that February 16 marks the start of the annual
Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). Sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, this massive citizen science collaboration allows people around the globe to record birds in their own locale and upload what they observe in real time. Scientists gain a better understanding of migration and bird behavior, while millions of people get a front row seat in nature's greatest theatre - right in their own backyards.
Your mission? Spot and count as many feathered friends as you can. It's like a scavenger hunt for treasures hiding in plain sight. It's not just about counting birds, though; it's about connecting with nature, learning about different species, and sharing vital information with the global community. It's super easy and accessible for everyone. Birding just might open your eyes to a whole new dimension of enjoyment. It's what I look forward to every morning and on every vacation (much to my teenager's chagrin). What a great way to brighten up a dreary winter day! If you’re so inclined, sketch some birds and share them on Instagram or another social platform - spread the word for birds!
In honor of the GBBC, I'm offering 30% off on all bird artwork. Use coupon code Bird2024
