I am a contemporary mixed-media artist creating abstract landscape paintings inspired by coastal environments, conservation lands, and the natural forces that shape them. My work explores the movement of tides, wind, erosion, light, and growth—not as literal subjects, but as ways of understanding place, memory, and our relationship with the natural world.

Based on Mount Desert Island, Maine and in Sausalito, California, I paint daily, teach community workshops, and exhibit in galleries and juried shows across the country. Travel and close observation are central to my practice. Before beginning a new series, I spend time walking, studying, and absorbing a landscape—its forms, rhythms, colors, and atmosphere.

My background as an environmental educator, Master Gardener, beekeeper, and public health analyst informs the way I see the land. I am especially interested in the interdependence between people, plants, pollinators, and ecosystems, and in the subtle ways human presence shapes the environments we inhabit. My artistic practice reflects a lifetime of creative exploration, ongoing study with established artists, and more than 15 years of dedicated studio work.

My process is rooted in layering, excavation, and transformation. I work with acrylic texture, oil, cold wax, ink, and collage, often incorporating natural pigments and hand-painted papers made from upcycled materials. Surfaces are built slowly, then scraped, carved, sanded, and revealed. Earlier marks remain embedded beneath the surface, creating a visual record of time, change, and discovery.

The resulting paintings exist between abstraction and representation. Rather than depicting specific views, they evoke the feeling of a place—rock, water, sky, vegetation, weather, and light filtered through memory and material process. I am drawn to the tension between structure and unpredictability, where intention meets accident and composition emerges through accumulated layers.

Sustainability is central to my practice. By using reclaimed, repurposed, and handmade materials, I approach each painting as an evolving record of renewal. Every surface carries traces of what came before, echoing the landscapes that inspire me: constantly shifting, shaped by visible and unseen forces.

Through these textured abstract landscapes, I aim to create work that feels immersive, grounded, and alive—inviting viewers to reflect on the beauty, fragility, and resilience of the environments we call home.
